Eureka Springs – Northwest Arkansas

Eureka Springs

On Tuesday, May 4 we arrived in Arkansas for a 2.5 month tour of the Ozarks. Our first leg was a 3-week stay at Harrison Village Campground & RV Park [our review can be found here ] in Harrison, Arkansas.

We battled lots of unprecedented weather like rain, rain and more rain mixed with cold BUT we did manage to fit in lots of adventures. There were so many adventures within a one-hour radius of Harrison that we needed to break it down a bit.

Post #1 is featuring the town, attractions and dining we experienced around Eureka Springs. This is an area we will definitely revisit again when the opportunity presents itself.

Eureka Springs

The unique small town is full of one-of-a-kind shops, historic landmarks, spiritual connections and outdoor activities.

Thorncrown Chapel – Eureka Springs

Nestled in a woodland setting this architectural marvel is a MUST SEE. The chapel rises forty-eight feet into the Ozark sky, contains 425 windows and over 6,000 square feet of glass. It sits atop over 100 tons of native stone and colored flagstone, making it blend perfectly with its setting. The chapel’s simple design and majestic beauty combine to make it what critics have called “one of the finest religious spaces of modern times.”

Christ of the Ozarks

The seven-story, sixty-seven feet high, Christ of the Ozarks Statue continues to be one of the most visited attractions in the Ozarks since it was completed in 1966.  It is easy to drive to and the statue itself is nothing short of impressive. We did not have the opportunity to experience a performance.

Turpentine Creek Animal Refuge – Eureka Springs

This is a true jewel in the Ozark Mountains. We learned so much about the plight of the exotic animals and how to recognize a true Sanctuary vs how to spot a fake that will exploit the animals for profits.

For a minimal $25 fee you are provided access to a Discovery Area where several large cats, Bam Bam the Grizzly, servals and leopards reside. You can take your time strolling through the area admiring these magnificent creatures as well as learning from the lovely tour guides who will patiently answer questions. You are then led on a 1-hour tram tour around the premises to learn more about the rescued residents. Your tour ends where you began so you can stroll through the habitats on your way to a lovely gift shop and the exit. For additional opportunities to support and experience the refuge, there are opportunities to camp or spend the night in a suite.

Passion Play Mountain Biking Trails

Experience the beauty of the Ozark Mountains while exploring the grounds of The Great Passion Play on the 15 miles of well built mountain biking trails that accommodate every skill level. Our skill level was green for Beginner and we loved every minute of the 5’ish miles that we did on Genesis.

RESTAURANTS:

The Rockin’ Pig Saloon – Eureka Springs

Rating: 5 out of 5.

From the exceptional service to the craft beer selection, fried pickles, Smokehaus Combo with Wagyu brisket and pulled pork, we were completely blown away. The absolute BEST brisket and pulled pork we’ve ever tasted. But that’s not all, the southern greens and the parmesan tots were so good “it will make you slap your momma“!
