Now that we are nearing the end of our Arkansas 2021 Tour, we wanted to take a minute and reflect on the beautiful waterfalls we had the opportunity to visit. We lucked out with above average rainfall levels which led to spectacular water flow. See for yourself.
#1 Cedar Falls, Petit Jean State Park, Morrilton AR
This is an easy hike from the lodge on a well marked and well used trail. Be prepared for crowds as this is the #1 hike in beautiful Petit Jean.
#2 Twin Falls (aka Triple Falls), Jasper AR
This is a short quick hike that the Boy Scouts allow limited access to the trail, so please be respectful of the land and postings. The road getting to the trailhead was a bit of an adventure.
#3 Hemmed-In Hollow Falls, Compton AR
At 209 feet tall, this natural wonder is the tallest waterfall between the Appalachian Mountains and the Rocky Mountains. We did the short walk from the Buffalo National River as it is rated as difficult by AllTrails.
#4 Pam’s Grotto Waterfall, Hagarville AR
This short but rocky hike is certainly worth the effort it takes to navigate the boulders.There is no notable trailhead or parking area. Without our trusty AllTrails app, we would not have found it.
#5 Richland Falls, Richland Creek Recreation Area, Ozark National Forest, Witts Springs AR
This was a hike! The true purpose of the 5 mile hike on Twin Falls Trail is to it’s namesake. We, however, were more partial to the Richland Falls for beauty and surrounding scenery. Although the trail itself wasn’t treacherous in terms of steepness and terrain, it was poorly marked (almost no trail markings of note), overgrown and the water crossings were slippery (best to have hiking sticks) and be prepared for waist deep waters. The bonus with the hike is there are two beautiful falls for R&R.
