Sunset & Stars – Oh My!

Adventures in
Great Smoky Mountains National Park

WOW!!!  AMAZING!!!  AWESOME!!!  


These were the words we kept uttering as we watched the horizon turn shades of gold and hues of blue. We arrived early at Clingmans Dome to get our spot in the parking lot. I decided to use the evergreen tree on the right to hide the camera lens from the bright sun.



We’ve had our share of beautiful sunsets in the mountains, but this particular evening at Clingmans Dome was on a whole other level. 



A couple of local photographers nearby were also in awe on how everything seemed just right a spectacular show. The sky was clear and cool. 

The sun was now low enough to capture it in all its glory.

Now we just stood there in awh. The click of the cameras around us. Watching the glory of this day come to an end.

There was this huge blanket of fog that rolled over the mountains truly making the Smoky Mountains…. well….. smoky!

And before you know it, the sun is down and the night time show begins.

We stayed long after the sun had set to watch the stars and were greeted with the Milky Way.   

Here you can see the lights (also known as light pollution) from Cherokee, NC.

  

If you get a chance to witness a sunset from Clingmans Dome, we highly recommend. NOT: If you get there and the clouds and fog are rolling in, give it a minute or two. Things change quickly when you are that high in the clouds.
