KOA Jonesborough/Cherokee

Adventures in
Tennessee’s Tri-Cities Region

We were both surprised and enchanted with this small, family friendly, boutique campground located directly on the banks of the Nolichucky River where we would spend two-weeks.

As you can see, the Nolichucky was right outside our door. The sound of the river lulled us to sleep at night, awoke us with her music and we enjoyed the cool waters at all times of the day.

Tennessee’s oldest established town, Jonesborough was right down the road as well as the Cherokee National Forest where we would spend a lot of our time enjoying hikes, sunrises and sunsets. Of course, the Nolichucky offered several opportunities for exciting whitewater fun.

In our two week visit , we were able to squeeze in the following adventures which we will elaborate on in future posts:

  • Hike to Laurel Falls via Appalachian Trail, Hampton Tennessee;
  • Hike to Margarette Falls, Greeneville Tennessee;
  • Hike from Carver’s Gap to Grassy Ridge Bald via Appalachian Trail, Roan Mountain Tennessee;
  • Hike along the AT from Iron Mountain Gap to Hughes Gap;
  • Visit Beauty Spot, along the Appalachian Trail but a location you can drive to;
  • Nolichucky River: [we don’t have any pictures 😦 too busy paddling]
    • Lower Segment in our own Aire Lynx Raft
    • Upper Segment guided trip with USA Raft
  • Boone, NC: Drove to Boone to visit dear friends at their lovely mountain home;
  • Watauga Lake, 9-mile lake paddle in our Swift kayaks.
