2022’s Journey will entail 25 Campsites – 4,315 Miles (in Rosie the RV) and countless other SUV miles to get us to our adventures. We will see such vacation hotspots as St Augustine, Savannah, Charleston, Lake Placid, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine [primarily Acadia National Park, and Baxter State Park], then head south to West Virginia and Virginia before landing back in Central Florida for the winter months.
On May 1st, five weeks into our 2022 adventures, in the Savannah, Georgia area we moved to Tybee Island to get a feel for coastal Georgia. Tybee Island is a small coastal community located only 18 miles away from Historic Savannah, Georgia. Consistently named as one of the top-rated beaches in the U.S., Tybee has something for everyone! This is how we spent our time on the island:
Campground
The only campground on the island is River’s End Campground. This is a very tightly structured park, the major on-line complaint is how close the sites are to each other. Mike had worked his magic and we had the one site with a little breathing room. We enjoyed our 7-night stay with a gentle breeze and a shade tree on our site.

Fort Pulaski National Monument
This was by far one of our favorite fort experiences. Whatever your interest-sightseeing, hiking, kayaking, bicycling, exploring, history, nature study, or photography- you will find Fort Pulaski National Monument like no other place. Fort Pulaski offers an abundance of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, and bird watching.

During two separate visits, we rode our bikes from the campground, toured the fort and were able to experience reenactments, walked the three different trail systems and were able to watch barges travel through the channel.

Beach Bike Rides
There is nothing like riding your bike on the beach…

Kayaking
Just south of our barrier island lies a pure, uninhabited nature preserve called Little Tybee Island. We opted to park our car at Alley 3 for the put in, being sure to know the tide schedule.
We paddled a total of 10-miles: across to Little Tybee Island and around to the beach area then back around to the back-side to admire the few houses on the intercoastal waterway.

Fun on the Island

Lots of restaurants, ice cream and shops

Photographic Points
An impressive 145-feet tall light station whose history dates back to 1736 makes for impressive photography.
