First Stop: Ocala, Florida

We started our 2023 travel season with a breakdown week at Champions Run Luxury RV Resort in Ocala. This place is wonderful! In the beginning of our RV adventures we were sure we only wanted the woodsy parks, couldn’t imagine actually wanting to stay at a “resort” with the amenities….

Fast forward 3+ years and many-many types of parks later and we actually LOOK FORWARD to these resorts. And if you’re an RV-er, you know that just because “resort” is in the name, it doesn’t actually mean it is so. Well, with Champions Run you won’t be disappointed. This one is exceptional! After spending 5-days earlier in February with our friends Doug and Julie, we were anxious to get back to the resort lifestyle.

We used the week prior to our actual departure date to tie up loose ends in Inverness (like a root canal – UGH) and to reacquaint ourselves with Rosie, the large and in-charge RV.

Oh, and we also took time to enjoy the amenities that Champions Run offers: coffee in the cool mornings on our spacious concrete pad, taking advantage of the small but well equipped gym, enjoying pool in the middle of the day while watching pickleball games, soaking in the hot tub as the day winds down into evening, making new friends by the large fire pits while watching the sun set with a cocktail in hand, walking the spacious park in the cool evenings and generally settling into RV living.

The events coordinator does overtime with scheduling group activities like Bingo night, card games and our favorite…. Food Truck Thursday’s! We indulged with a yummy pizza and most importantly a Samoa Sundae!

The choices are endless, as outdoor enthusiasts here are a few of our favorites:

• Silver Springs State Park
• Silver River Paddle Trip
• Santos Trailhead for Biking both paved greenway and BEST mountain biking in Florida!
• Withlacoochee State Forest for more mountain biking at Croom or paddle the Withlacoochee River
• Ocala National Forest. Lots to do here.
• Juniper Springs
• Rainbow River
• and countless others

In Closing

What a wonderful way to kick-off our 2023 touring season. For the next 7-months we will explore Kentucky focusing on the Bourbon Tour, Ohio to see my little brother, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula including the natural wonders of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Mackinac Island, just to name two of our countless stops. Next, we will head to Arkansas for the fall. We fell in love with Arkansas in 2021 so we are back to see all of it’s splendor in the fall months.
